The carbon-credit market, vital for global sustainability efforts, has long struggled with reliability. Credits are issued and retired across many independent registries that do not talk to each other, creating a real risk of double-counting and double-claiming. A global carbon-market infrastructure provider set out to fix this with a meta-registry: a single, trustworthy layer sitting above every registry. Here is how 10Clouds helped build it.

The Challenge

Carbon credits are issued, transferred, and retired across dozens of independent registries, each with its own data model and no shared identifiers. The market had no single place to see the full picture.

This fragmentation created three concrete problems:

  • Double-counting and double-claiming — the same environmental benefit claimed more than once, with no cross-registry check to catch it.
  • No standardization — different registries verify, value, and label credits differently, so data could not be compared or trusted across sources.
  • An evolving regulatory landscape — compliance requirements differ by jurisdiction, and the platform had to operate internationally while staying adaptable.

The Solution

A meta-registry that connects to every participating registry and presents one consistent, real-time view of the market.

  • Global reference identifiers and automated checks standardize records across sources and flag overlaps before they become double-claims.
  • A Country Dashboard tracks national commitments (NDCs), internationally transferred mitigation outcomes (ITMOs), and corresponding adjustments, alongside projects, issuances, retirements, and cancellations.
  • A Program Dashboard surfaces overlap notifications and an in-context chat tool for the bodies that run crediting programs.
  • A core interoperability platform keeps registries, the meta-registry, and exchanges in real-time communication.

Built for Interoperability

The platform connects to registries two ways, so participants integrate however suits them:

  • Registry APIs — REST APIs, authenticated and controlled with granular permissions, for direct registry-to-meta-registry communication.
  • Distributed Ledger Technology — public and private blockchain integrations via sidechains, oracles, and bridges, for participants operating on-chain.

The result is seamless interoperability: a simple, secure view of the carbon markets that any registry, exchange, or data provider can plug into.

Deliverables

10Clouds focus on the business value and trust. We've delivered a variety of top quality applications to companies of all sizes - from one-person startups to enterprises like Pinterest, Asmodee, universities and non-profits.

How we work
Discovery Workshop

Mapping registry data models, identifiers, and the cross-registry reconciliation logic.

Interoperability Platform

Real-time communication layer between registries, the meta-registry, and exchanges.

Country & Program Dashboards

NDC / ITMO tracking, corresponding adjustments, and overlap notifications.

API & DLT Integration

Permissioned REST APIs plus public/private ledger bridges, oracles, and sidechains.

UX/UI Design

A clean, reliable interface that hides the underlying technical complexity.

Standards & Identifiers

Global reference identifiers and automated checks to prevent double-counting.

Who It Serves

The meta-registry is built for the full breadth of the carbon market: governments, standards and crediting programs, project developers, corporates, brokers, traders, banks, investors, exchanges, and data providers — each working from the same trusted record.
